MINOT – The Community Club, School Committee, Board of Selectmen and eighth-graders at the Minot Consolidated School have teamed up for a Community Fun Day from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Minot Consolidated School.
The eighth-graders wanted to do something to foster a sense of community among residents of all ages.
“It’s an outgrowth of the Community Club’s family fun day, which was aimed pretty much at the school, expanded to involve the whole town – bringing citizens of all ages together,” School Committee Chairman Colleen Quint said.
Quint has been signed up for the dunk tank, along with Principal Margaret Pitts and a volunteer from the Board of Selectmen. There will be a pie eating contest featuring a competition between eighth-graders and the Minot Fire Department.
“I’m not sure it will really be fair with us picking on the eighth-graders,” Fire Department member Dean Campbell said.
Antique cars will be on display. The Minot Historical Society will present a display on the town’s old schools. Other activities include a range of running and tossing games, featuring a cake walk, three legged and obstacle course races.
The big draw will be a pig roast and barbecue.
The events, including the pig roast, are free. Participants are invited, however, to bring a dessert to share.
The event will be held rain or shine.
