ABBOT (AP) – Parents involved in Project Graduation at Piscataquis Community High School are accused of holding a graduation party in their garage and providing a place for teenagers to drink alcohol.
Charges were brought against Timothy Weymouth, 42, and Diana Weymouth, 40, as well as 10 juveniles charged with either consuming alcohol or being in possession of alcohol, said Piscataquis County Sheriff John Goggin.
An anonymous caller alerted police to a large gathering that involved young people on May 21 at the Weymouths’ home, Goggin said.
When police arrived, some of the teenagers were intoxicated to the point of slurred speech, Goggin said. The parents told deputies that the gathering was not a planned party and that they had taken car keys when they realized teens were drinking.
“The parents were not happy that we broke up the party,” Goggin said. The parents received a summons to appear in court next month.
Project Graduation is nationwide effort to provide a safe, alcohol-free place for students to gather on seniors’ graduation night.
