AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is inviting people to add a shelter cat to their family this month.

The community is invited to visit the Humane Society where many breeds, sizes and ages of cats and kittens need homes. The theme of this year’s Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month is “Be the Love of Nine Lives Adopt a Shelter Cat.”

ASPCA President Ed Sayres praised the shelter’s efforts and said, “The ASPCA commends the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in its efforts to promote cat adoption in the greater Androscoggin County. There are so many wonderful cats in shelters and foster care waiting for permanent, loving homes. Please visit the shelter to meet the new love of your life.”

The Humane Society will be celebrating Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month by hosting a kitten shower and an open house. Since the number of kittens brought to the shelter increases dramatically during the summer, they invite people to participate in a “shower” for these “babies” through the week of June 6 to 11.

The shelter will also host an open house through the month. For more information on the Kitten Shower and items needed for the young animals, the open house or the cats and kittens available for adoption, visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org or call the shelter at 783-2311.

The primary support for the shelter comes from fund-raising events and donations of concerned residents.

The shelter is at 3312 Hotel Road. Anyone interested in learning more about what kinds of donations the shelter needs, volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
