POLAND – The Gray-New Gloucester High School Chamber Choir and Concert Band, under the direction of Carol Clark, will open the Poland Spring Preservation Society’s 2005 Summer Concert Series Monday, June 6. The concert is part of PSPS’s Youth Night.

The Chamber Choir is a talented, select group of musicians whose repertoire ranges from Broadway to classical to popular music.

During the first part of the academic year, when Musical Director Lee Foster was ill, the group continued as a choir, under the direction of Gray-New Gloucester student Samantha Bishop.

Sadly, Foster died early this spring; the student ensembles are dedicating their performances to him this year.

The Concert Band consists of 43 instrumentalists, whose repertoire includes marches, folk music, classical, patriotic and sacred songs. This season’s lineup includes performances at the Augusta and Cumberland County civic centers as well as local events.

Clark, who has a background in music education and performance, joined the Gray-New Gloucester High School faculty in January. A graduate of the University of Maine, she was clarinet instructor at Northern Conservatory of Music and the Performing Arts in Bangor, and music director at West Bath School. For the last 10 years, she has toured throughout the United States and England, performing professionally as a founding member of two Celtic bands and in a duo. She is also co-director, clarinetist and bagpiper of Fanfare Concert Band, which appears every Thursday evening at the Poland Spring Inn.

All PSPS summer concerts are open to the public and are held at All Souls Chapel. There will be a series of weekly raffles to support the restoration of the chapel’s Skinner organ. Show time is 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with member seating at 6:25 p.m. Admission is $5. All proceeds go to support the work of the PSPS.
