I’ve been watching the paper and see that a lot of people are worried about our high rate of taxes, which keep businesses away from Maine, and also our overextended budget every year.

First, you shouldn’t spend what you don’t have. I learned that when I was very young. Apparently our state representatives haven’t. Second, our state has twice as many, maybe three times as many, representatives as it should have and maybe if our government did its job, it might let a lot of them go.

I researched this at the library. Maine has 35 senators and 151 representatives. California, as big as it is, has 40 senators and 80 representatives.

Why would Maine need almost twice as many?

It doesn’t. I wonder how much that would cut off the budget?

Also, we could take half the highway department off. I’m sure if our government workers took a cut in pay, it might help.

There are so many things that could be done without raising taxes or borrowing. Why can’t our government think of these? It’s really not hard to do.
