MARS HILL – Mary T. Irvine, 87, died Saturday, June 4, at a Houlton health-care facility.

She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Westfield, the daughter of Ralph and Nora (Chase) Craig.

Mary graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1934 and went on to earn her two-year teaching certificate from the Aroostook State Normal School. She started teaching in 1938 at a one-room schoolhouse in Westfield.

In 1941, Mary married Rellan Turner with whom she would have 17 years of marriage and two sons.

After Rellan’s passing in 1958, Mary went on to obtain her four-year teaching degree in 1960 from the University of Maine in Presque Isle.

In 1961, she married Kenneth Irvine to whom she would be married for 39 years, with his passing in 2000.

She retired from teaching in the late ’70s with having taught in Westfield, Bridgewater, Mars Hill, and SAD 1, as teaching principal of the Westfield Elementary School.

Mary loved her family and was deeply devoted to them. She had a passion for reading, travel, and her church.

Mary is survived by two sons, Craig E. Turner and his wife, Ethel, and Jon R. Turner and his wife, Ann; grandchildren, Scott Turner and his wife, Jill, Andrea Turner, Mark Turner, Rellan Turner, Sarah Dailey, Amber Mahoney and her husband, Brian, David Bean, and Jonathan Bean; great-grandchildren, Liam and Stephen Dailey.

Besides her parents and two husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Craig.
