CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The Sugarloaf region will offer a grand celebration of the nation’s birthday with three consecutive nights of fireworks, an explosion of live music and golf as part of Sugarloaf/USA’s annual canned food drive.

The weekend events will begin on Saturday, July 2, with the third annual performance by the Kingfield POPS with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. The community event will offer an evening of familiar and patriotic live music for the whole family followed by the weekend’s first fireworks display.

Tickets for the POPS are $20 in advance for adults and free for youth age 17 and under when accompanied by an adult.

The lakeside town of Rangeley will host one of western Maine’s largest fireworks shows on Sunday, July 3, then Carrabassett Valley will furnish a third night of fireworks during a celebration on Monday, July 4, in the town park.

In celebration of the Sugarloaf Golf Club’s 20th anniversary season, the fourth annual Summer Tin Mountain Round Up canned food drive has been moved to July 3 to 5.

For this one weekend each season, guests can play the course for $30 when they bring three canned food items. For nearly 20 years, the resort has offered reduced-price lift tickets to guests who donate three items of canned food one weekend a season. Three years ago, the tradition was extended to the golf season. Last year, golfers pledged nearly 1,500 items. The donated food helps stock the shelves at two local food pantries.
