FARMINGTON – Urban H. Blaisdell, 86, of Fair Avenue, Dixfield, died early Sunday morning, June 5, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington with his family at his side.

He was born April 25, 1919, a son of Urban A. and Ellen (Hodge) Blaisdell.

He received his education in Dixfield schools and graduated from Dixfield High School in 1937 where he was class president for two years.

He enjoyed playing hockey while in school. He continued his education at Franklin Institute and MIT where he graduated with a degree in topographical engineering.

He worked at Remington Arms in Bridgeport, Conn., before entering the U.S. Army in 1942, where he served in the European theater in England, France, Belgium, and Germany.

After the war, he worked at Stowell-MacGregor in Dixfield as yard supervisor for 35 years.

He was a 35-year member of the Dixfield Fire Company, a member of Tuscan Lodge IOOF, and a member of the Scottish Rite Body of Portland as well as being a 32nd degree Mason.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and going for rides in his later years.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Wright) of Dixfield, whom he married on Sept. 29, 1943; three sons, Robert and his wife, Patsy, of Richmond, Va., Jon and his wife, Sonia, of Dixfield, and James of Fairfield; a brother, Eugene of Dixfield; several grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Gary, in 1952, and a sister, Constance.
