FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington senior Sarah Palmer of Hinesburg, Vt., and junior Sean Thomas of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., have had short stories published in The Southern Maine Review, a journal of scholarship and creative expression.

Palmer graduated this spring with a dual degree in English and creative writing. Her work, “Pentimenti,” was part of her UMF honors project. The title was derives from a phenomenon in the art world where an underlying image appears in a painting as the piece ages.

Thomas will continue his studies as a senior next fall in the UMF creative writing program. His story, “The Six Arms of the Homeless,” is the winner of the University of Maine System – Southern Maine Review President’s Prose Award.
