Lawrence “Skip” Stanley was elected selectman and assessor with 95 and 130 votes, respectively.

Gerald Wiley received 17 write-in votes for SAD 39 director, but he has not said if he will accept the job.

At the selectmen’s meeting, Superintendent Rick Colpitts explained the SAD 39 budget and discussed the warrant for the district meeting June 15 at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School.

Buckfield will be looking at a $12,646.16 increase over last year. Colpitts said he is worried about what the state is actually going to fund.

Selectman Oscar Gammon said Mainers voted to have the state fund 55 percent of school costs, but that the figure has been dropped to 48 percent.

Colpitts indicated that figure could drop even more.

The board voted to award the contract for work on the recreation field to Downing Landscaping for $82,737. The recreation committee was awarded a $45,000 grant from the state. The committee received $40,000 from donations and $5,000 from the town.

The job includes preparing the field, fencing and playground equipment. Buckfield will also be asking Sumner to donate $1,000 for the use of the facility.

Town Manager Glen Holmes gave a report on the municipal landscaping project, which included a walk around the premises to see the progress. Rainy days have delayed the work, and the projected completion date is now mid-June.

Holmes said he is working with the state on sidewalks and street parking as it begins work on Route 117.
