Congratulations to the Sun Journal on the purchase of Howard James’ newspapers in Rumford and Norway. Mr. James has had a long career in journalism, including working at The Christian Science Monitor, where he won a Pulitzer Prize for his series on children in trouble. He was also a reporter for the Chicago Tribune and has written several books.

The owners of the Sun Journal should, at this time, consider changes to the format of their papers, including:

• Going to a tabloid format, which may save money and is easier to read.

• Changing the publication schedule to twice a week.

• Eliminating the Sunday paper, which is a waste of trees and other resources.

What with constant television coverage of national and world news, plus several excellent daily papers and weekly news magazines, the need for local coverage of out-of-area news every day is redundant. Local “color” related to national news can still be covered twice a week.
