JAY – A Bath man faces burglary of a motor vehicle and theft charges after he was caught by a security camera stealing stereo equipment and other items from a car parked at Wausau Paper mill late Thursday, police said.
After a grainy photo of the suspected culprit was published in the Sun Journal on Sunday, the man called police to surrender.
Jay police received numerous calls providing information after they asked for help from the public. The surveillance tape showed a man attempting to break into a trunk of a car beside a car that already had its trunk open.
Jay Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier arrested Franklin S. Dolliver Jr., 22, of Bath, who has ties to the Livermore Falls area, on a charge of felony burglary of a motor vehicle Monday, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday. Dolliver was also summoned on a misdemeanor charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, he said.
The lead investigator, officer Troy Young, talked to Dolliver on the phone Monday prior to him turning himself in at the Jay Police Department.
Dolliver broke a window of a vehicle parked at the mill and stole stereo equipment and other items valued at $700, White said.
Dolliver also attempted to force the trunk open, he said.
Total damage to the car is estimated to be more than $800, White said.
Dolliver was released from Franklin County jail in Farmington on Monday after he posted $100 cash bail.
He is scheduled to appear Wednesday, July 27, in 12th District Court in Farmington.
[email protected] suspect vehicle was found and stopped on Church Street in Jay on Saturday, White said.
However, a friend had borrowed the car and Dolliver was not in the vehicle at the time. Jay officers Rod Small and Steve Gould questioned the people in the car and searched the vehicle and found some of the stolen items, White said.
