By analyzing the national map, can anyone believe the baloney from the Bush administration or Sen. Collins that there is no evidence of political motivation for military base closings? Nobody is going to buy that.

By taking a deep look at the Pentagon’s choices, it is obvious that the South is the biggest winner, while New England is the biggest loser.

Once again, Bush and his administration show they can win the White House without any Northeast states.

On the other hand, Texas and Florida are necessary. Republicans need those red states to stay in power, that’s why they have been rewarded.

Mainers are going to suffer for four more years with big consequences, such as rising unemployment, more parents separated, more troubled children, small and big business layoffs, communities half-empty and an increase in drug and alcohol related problems, criminality and prostitution. All because of an administration that pretends to be a champion of family values and local economy has turned its back on the state.

If Sens. Snowe and Collins are truly supporting their constituents in this tragedy, they ought to leave the Republican Party and become independent or join the Democrats. If not, Maine voters will show their anger toward both of them in 2006 and 2008 because they are “kissing” with New England’s enemies in D.C.
