AUBURN – Kids ages 12 and under across America will compete to see if their Dubble Bubble measures up on Saturday, June 11. Every Wal-Mart store will host the sixth annual Dubble Bubble National Bubble Blowing Contest, where kids compete to see who can blow the biggest diameter bubble gum bubble.
All bubbles will be measured using an official Dubble Bubble Bubble Meter.
Five finalists from across the country will be identified to participate in the national finals in August.
They will compete for the grand prize of a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a $1,000 donation in the winner’s honor to Children’s Miracle Network.

Volunteers needed
CAPE ELIZABETH – Volunteers are needed for this year’s Beach to Beacon 10K, formerly called the Peoples Beach to Beacon, on Saturday, Aug. 6. Volunteers can register online at www.beach2beacon.org.
Volunteers are utilized in all aspects of the event, including registration, course set-up and break-down, water stations, baggage assistance, recycling and parking.
Volunteers receive a commemorative T-shirt and are given a post-race celebration/picnic at Fort Williams Park following the awards ceremony.
Those without Internet access are asked to call 838-8816 to request a volunteer application or they can pick up a form at a TD Banknorth branch statewide. Minors (under age 18) cannot register online and need to obtain a volunteer form by calling the above number or e-mailing [email protected].

BATH – The Maine Downtown Center is seeking nominations for its second annual Downtown Achievement Awards.
The purpose is to recognize excellence in Maine’s downtowns. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Aug. 31.
