AUGUSTA – Head Start parents, teachers and agencies recently gathered in the Hall of Flags at the State House to show support of early education and to speak out against the “Flat Funding Head Start” plan included in Pres. George Bush’s budget proposal.
Head Start in Maine helps more than a thousand kids. Head Start is now 40 years old.
Among the Head Start representatives from Maine were parents and staff members of Community Concepts Head Start and Child Care programs.
Parents were Jessica Fogg, Lelah Villalpanda and Jennie Hinkley of Franklin County and Brandi Rowe, Marilee Verrill and Brady Bachelder of Oxford County. The parents were able to sit in on the House and Senate while they were in session.
