FARMINGTON – Nelda Thompson, 80, of Strong, and Venice, Fla., died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.

She was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Cecil and Olive (Ross) Thompson. She was educated in Phillips schools and graduated from Simmons College in Boston, in 1947.

On Aug. 21, 1948, she married James L. Worthley at her parents’ home in Phillips.

She taught school in Old Town and Poland. Later she was employed by the Department of Agriculture and the Western Area Agency on Aging.

She was a member of the Fairbanks Union Church.

Her priority was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, cooking, caring for her home and family, and visiting with her many friends.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James, of Strong; one daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Cox and her husband, Bill, of Auburn; three sons, Craig and his companion, Dawn, of Hallowell, John and his companion, Louanne, of Hermon, and Kevin of South Portland; two grandchildren, Karen Cox of Livermore and David Cox of Old Town; a sister, Jean Dibden of Augusta; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Gordon Thompson.
