POLAND – School Union 29, which serves Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls, has started its search for a new assistant superintendent.
Current assistant William Doughty is leaving to serve as principal for Poland’s middle and high schools.
While Doughty was in charge of curriculum, his replacement will focus more on finance, business and personnel. That will leave Superintendent Nina Schlikin free to deal more with education and curriculum.
The school system has received eight applications for the position. Most applicants are currently working in Maine.
The search committee will interview candidates next week. Officials hope to fill the position by July 1.
