AUGUSTA – Audrey L. Johnson of Auburn, postmaster of Gardiner, has been chosen as Postmaster Ambassador for Maine.
Johnson was selected from a group of 10 other Maine postmasters.
Each of the 80 postal districts in the country has one Postmaster Ambassador who represents their district at various postal functions and events. She will be a spokesperson for the USPS at public appearances around the state of Maine.
Johnson joined the USPS in 1982 as a rural carrier relief in Apache Junction, Ariz. In 1993, she transferred to Lewiston. Johnson was promoted to customer service supervisor at the Auburn Post Office in 1994. Since that time, Johnson has done many special assignments for the District of Maine, serving as acting manager of marketing, acting manager of safety/injury compensation, and officer in charge of the Freeport, Skowhegan, and Gardiner post offices. In 1999, she became the postmaster of Freeport and was promoted to postmaster of Gardiner in 2004.
A graduate of Edward Little High School, she is the mother of a 26-year old son, Brad Johnson. She was nominated as a candidate for the Postmaster Ambassador Program by leaders of the Maine chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, of which she is a member.
