WALES – Leo Clyde Palmer, 90, of Wales, died Friday morning, June 10.

He was born June 10, 1915, in Whitefield, the son of Clyde and Bernice Shorey Palmer. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1933.

He joined the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Madeline (Johnson) Ham in 1966, and enjoyed many happy years with her.

Throughout his life, he was a farmer, a carpenter, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved his camp, “The Liar’s Den,” on Brassua Lake, where he had many fond memories that will be remembered by family and friends.

He spent two seasons as a fire warden in a fire tower on Mountain No. 5 in Somerset County.

Leo was a member of the Masons (Webster Lodge No. 164,) Eastern Star (Lakeside Chapter No. 60,) Wales Grange No. 40, and the Trappers Association of Maine.

During the last years of his life, he enjoyed caring for the garden of his niece, Elizabeth. He enjoyed sports, and was and avid Red Sox fan. He loved hiking, and his family’s land.

He leaves behind many priceless memories and stories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by four sisters, Marjorie Prince and Eunice Prescott, of Sabattus, Mary Miller of Wales, and Florence Butler of Smithfield, R.I.; 13 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; four stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline; one brother, Burton Palmer; and stepchildren, Burton Ham Sr. and Shirley St. Laurent.
