With the possible base realignment of Brunswick Naval Air Station and the closing of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, I see a trend. All the good-paying jobs are moving out of Maine. Most of the paper, shoe and textile industries have already moved out of state and overseas.

I am a high school freshman and hope to pursue a career in engineering. I am wondering if there are going to be any job opportunities in Maine when I graduate. Most of the jobs that I see in Lewiston are in fast-food restaurants and small shops owned by entrepreneurs. Most people cannot make a living working at a fast-food restaurant, and many small businesses fail.

So, what can be done to attract good jobs back to Maine?
