LEWISTON – Seen any snakes slither by lately?
A 4-foot-long ball python was reported missing Sunday afternoon by its owner at 575 Main St.
“They usually show up behind a radiator or in a cupboard,” said police Sgt. David St. Pierre.
It wasn’t the first such reptile to take a vacation from its owner in the city.
He said the city’s animal control officer was notified, but local police weren’t dispatched. The snake’s owner said it isn’t dangerous to humans, though such pythons are often deadly to gerbils and other small mammals.
At 4 feet, the python is about as long at it will grow. Such pythons are native to central and western Africa.
