RUMFORD – Aubrey A. Thompson, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 11, with his family at his side. He was a resident of Franklin Street in Rumford.

Born in Dolby, on June 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Edward and Annie Belle (Handy) Thompson. He was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1942.

He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnanceman second class during World War II from 1942 to 1947.

He worked for Boise Cascade on the North Star Coater and retired in May of 1986 from the Process Control Lab. He also worked as a custodian for the Mexico First Baptist Church until his passing.

He was a member of the Mexico First Baptist Church and he also belonged to the Rumford Historical Society. His interests included photography, history and the coast of Maine. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the Red Sox and the New York Giants.

He was married in Rumford, on Dec. 24, 1947, to Audrey Philbrick who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include two sons, Dale Thompson and his wife, Stacy, and Donald Thompson and his wife, Vickie, of Rumford; three daughters, Karen Wolfe and her husband, Russell, of Saltillo, Tenn., Sandy Shaw and her husband, Steve, of Edgecomb, Ronda Shaw and her husband, Chris, of Rumford; brother, Vinal Thompson and his wife, Esley, of Mexico; two sisters, Charlene Cormier and Gloria Sites of Sabattus; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond; a sister, Regina; grandsons, Joshua and Jonathan Thompson; and a great-grandson, Joseph Dolloff.
