AUBURN – The National Honor Society at Edward Little High School held its induction ceremony on May 24 in the gym.

Inductee Amanda Elze played classical selections prior to the event. The formal ceremony started with “An Irish Blessing,” sung by Ryan Delorme, Heidi Dorris, Raechel Biron, Aimee Poulin, Gretchen Stearns and Hannah Giasson.

Principal James Miller welcomed the 300 people and congratulated the inductees. Max Mogensen, NHS president, introduced the guest speaker, Charles Large of the Good Shepherd Food Bank. He addressed the inductees on the importance of service and invited them to continue to develop that attribute.

Hannah Giasson spoke on the history of the National Honor Society. Then four members explained the four qualities of a member and lit a candle from the candelabra. Karina Klonoski spoke on scholarship; Stephanie DeFilipp, leadership; Brian Erickson, character; and Katie Hughes, service. Erickson, vice president, lit the fifth candle symbolizing a person who has all four qualities.

Inductees were invited to go forward to light a candle of their choice from the candelabra. Their credentials were presented to them by three NHS officers: Erickson, secretary Karina Klonoski and treasurer Hannah Giasson. Mogensen led the inductees in the pledge.

The newly chosen members then marched to the back of the gym where they greeted their relatives and friends. Kit Sawyer and Carolyn Ritchie served light refreshments. Guests examined posters of NHS activities, including kiddie nights and the student activities represented by the members. The posters had been prepared by Brittany Wallingford. Ushers included Tara Churchill, Allie Sasser, Rachel Kennedy and Gretchen Stearns.
