I was infuriated as a citizen who is one of four generations of a family that has protected the United States by serving in the armed forces. Political correctness and party politics again overwhelmed common sense, and this time helped to make our country less safe. The bill was L.D. 1079, “An Act to Require Publicly Funded Entities to Report Undocumented Illegal Aliens.”

Our liberal Democratic majority in the Maine House of Representatives, to the person, voted this down. Their stated reasons were:

• Fear of being discovered would keep illegal aliens who were ill from seeking medical care.

• Fear of being discovered would keep children of illegal aliens away from school.

• This would turn citizens into a police force.

How horrible, asking the public to assist law enforcement and homeland security. Why are we obliged to educate the children of illegal aliens and give expensive health care to illegal aliens? What an insult to legal immigrants.

Putting the sarcasm aside, I need not say any more to patriotic Americans about judging the actions of our majority Democrats in the Maine Legislature. The lessons of Sept. 11 have been forgotten.

Illegal aliens are lawbreakers and should be deported.

The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves, as well as the current Bush administration. What part of the word “illegal” don’t they understand?

The Sun Journal predictably did not report this debate and vote.
