The sensational melo-drama “The Convicts Wife,” will be given its presentation in this city, at the Empire Theatre tonight before a good sized house. The play is new to our city and one which requires the full strength of the company.

Bangor – More than two-thirds of Bangor’s people will leave their homes, schools and jobs tomorrow in grimly realistic practice of a pre-attack evacuation. The Bangor exodus will be the only one of its scope during the nationwide Civil Defense “Operation Alert” tomorrow and Thursday and is the first in the Northeast.
25 Years Ago, 1980
Maine will have a $5 million surplus at the end of the fiscal year, Gov. Joseph E. Brennan said Friday. But Brennan said the expected surplus is “not an awesome amount of money.”
And he said it was too early in the budget-making process to determine what use will be made of the money.
