LEWISTON – Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity plans to raise money to finance a new house on Rideout Street.

The city has given Habitat an L-shaped corner lot at Rideout and Suncrest streets. A selection committee is reviewing applications from families who would like to own the house. Families must be living in substandard housing, have an income to pay a Habitat-provided no-interest mortgage and be willing to help with the construction.

Fund-raisers will include a five-band rock concert to be presented by students at Edward Little High School in Auburn from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 17, in the school auditorium. All proceeds will be given to Habitat. Tickets will be available at the door.

Habitat will have a barn sale June 24 and 25 at 283 Sanborn Road in Monmouth. Volunteers have been gathering goods for several weeks. Kim Veilleux, Habitat’s office manager, said the barn is full and no further donations can be accepted. Blue and green balloons will mark the directions from main highways during the sale. A follow-up yard sale will be held July 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 44 Marston St., Auburn.

Habitat will have a “blooming onion” food booth again this year at the annual Great Falls Balloon Festival Aug. 19 to 21.

Donations to the building fund may be sent to: Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 3041, Auburn, ME 04212.
