FARMINGTON – Albion F. Tracy, 71, a lifelong resident of Farmington, died peacefully at his farm on Titcomb Hill, Wednesday, June 15, surrounded by his family.

He was born in New Sharon, July 1, 1933, the son of Harvey L. and Grace O. Tracy of Farmington. He graduated from Farmington High School, Class of 1952.

He married Donna McPherson, of New Sharon, at the church in Weeks Mills (New Sharon), Sept. 20, 1953.

He had many occupations; as a self-employed lumberman for Forster Manufacturing in Wilton, for the Farmington Highway Department and as a part-time farmhand on Maple Hill Fruit Farm, owned by Charles and Nellie Titcomb Williams. He inherited this farm in 1971. He renamed it Maple Hill Farm. He ran a successful, diversified, farming operation, with a team of family and friends, for the rest of his life.

He and Maple Hill Farm were members of many organizations. They include Maine Angus Association (charter member), New England Angus Association, American Angus Association, Maine Maple Producers Association, Maine Hog Growers Association (charter member), National Farmers Organization and the American Tree Farm. He was a board member of the USDA Farm Service Agency. He was also a 4-H leader for more than 35 years.

Under his leadership, Maple Hill Farm was twice chosen as Franklin Counties’ Conservation Farm of the Year, in 1980 and 1998. Many will remember him in front of the barn having a roadside chat. Others will remember him firing the evaporator on Maine Maple Sunday. He lives on in the memories of his family and friends.

He had many interests. He attended many fairs, where he enjoyed horse, oxen and tractor pulling. He was involved with and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren showing livestock in 4-H. He enjoyed stock car racing at Oxford Plains Speedway and televised NASCAR. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna; four children and their spouses, Pete and Amy Tracy, Sherie and Bruce Karkos, and Bruce and Bobbi Tracy, all of Farmington, and David Tracy and Carol Chase of Wilton; grandchildren, Zachary, Nichole and Samantha Tracy, Amy and Alicia McCormick, John, Paul and Rick Karkos, Dustin, Branden and Kyle Tracy, and Sean Chase; one great-grandchild, Gavin Karkos; and siblings and their spouses, Helen and Jerry Sandoval of Jacksonville, Fla., Frank Tracy of Errol, N.H., Phillip and Abby Tracy of New Sharon, and Lee and Shirley Tracy of Bowdoinham.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Grace; his parents-in-law, George and Nellie Makepeace; and son-in-law, David McCormick.
