TURNER – Five people were examined for injuries Thursday after a three-vehicle pileup at Routes 4 and 117.

The 5:15 p.m. crash caused traffic snarls around the busy intersection as police and rescue crews responded to the scene.

Maine State Police Trooper Eric Paquette said a 16-year-old Turner boy was turning from Route 117 when his car was struck by a minivan traveling down Route 4.

The minivan was driven by 63-year-old Linwood Hanson of Lewiston, who had two passengers, Paquette said. The trooper did not identify the teenager involved in the crash.

The impact of those vehicles sent them spinning into a third on the opposite side of Route 117, police said. In that vehicle was Phillip Hanood, 54, of Canton, according to Paquette.

The victims were taken to Lewiston hospitals, where they were examined for possible injuries, Paquette said. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening. All the victims were expected to be released from the hospitals Thursday night.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Paquette said. “We got lucky.”
