Selectmen have voted to enter an agreement with the Maine Department of Transportation to do winter maintenance of Route 9 at a cost of $13,500 to be paid by DOT.
Town Manager Curtis Lunt said DOT doesn’t have sufficient manpower or equipment for winter maintenance of the road.
In other business:
• The Charter Commission was granted an extension of its report deadline. Public hearings will be held on the new plan and it will go before voters in November, Lunt said.
• Selectmen approved a request to expand the assessor/code enforcement office’s space by using the now-vacated Water Department quarters.
• The board scheduled a special meeting on June 28 to consider the annual sewer budget.

Lisbon schools: Resignations, retirements, layoff
Aurelie Bush has resigned as assistant principal of Lisbon Community School, effective June 30.
Other resignations included Richard Moore, academic arts and gifted and talented teacher at Philip W. Sugg Middle School, and high school science teacher Margaret Mayer.
High school math teacher Dorothy Cornette and technology teacher Michael Morris will retire June 30.
As part of a reduction in the work force, the School Committee decided to eliminate one business position. It voted to terminate the employment of Vicki Gamage.

Durham: Ex-candidate gets school board seat
Linda Pfaffinger, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the School Committee in the April election, has been appointed to fill a vacancy on that committee until the next annual town meeting, when a replacement will be elected.
She’ll replace Mark Emery, who resigned because he is moving out of town. His term would have expired in 2007.

Durham: Waste disposal, bus bids accepted
The School Committee has accepted Maine Waste Management’s low bid of $3,864 per year for another three-year contract for waste disposal at the elementary school. Also accepted was a bid from Don’s Automotive, the current contractor, for a three-year contract for bus maintenance at $60 per hour for regular service and $70 per hour for emergency service. He was the only bidder.
