LEWISTON – For $50, people can now recognize their favorite teachers.

Local business and college leaders are accepting nominees to a new Teacher Honor Roll. Sponsored by the Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce and the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, the Teacher Honor Roll will pay homage to special elementary, secondary and college educators who have touched the lives of students. Teachers must be living, but may reside or teach outside the region.

All nominated teachers will receive a letter and certificate, and will be recognized during an event this fall. Teachers who receive 10 or more nominations will be named to the Teacher Hall of Fame. Their names will be inscribed on a plaque to be displayed in a public building or at the new chamber office.

Nomination forms are available online at www.usm.maine.edu/lac/class/nomination/ and at Lewiston-Auburn College, Central Maine Community College in Auburn and the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries. Nominations cost $50. The money will go to a scholarship fund for students enrolled in Lewiston-Auburn College’s CLASS Program, which trains future teachers.
