RANGELEY – After several lengthy discussions residents of the town of Rangeley supported three articles on Thursday night concerning their capital budget reserve and also approved the purchase of two undeveloped lots to help with sewage disposal.

An amendment was proposed to reduce the appropriated money for the budget reserve from $85,500 to $45,500. But after a long debate, the motion failed and the original article passed 51-38.

Residents also debated purchasing two undeveloped lots abutting the Chick Hill Treatment Plant and ultimately approved the article that allowed for up to $230,000 for the lots.

Those attending also spared over $15,000 that was set to be appropriated for the Rangeley Lakes Cross Country Ski Club. The article passed but only after a call to end discussions, which had gone on for several minutes and had at times become heated.

Many residents left the meeting after the approval of the ski club article while other residents stayed to continued voting on other issues.
