LEWISTON – Bertrand J. Cote, of Auburn, passed away Friday, June 17, at d’Youville Pavilion.
Bertrand was born in Lewiston, on June 9, 1920, the son of Adelard Cote and Almira Champagne Cote.
He served in the U.S. Army, serving his country in World War II, in both Germany and France as a member of Company C, 66th Armored Infantry Battalion.
Bertrand was employed by Continental Mill and Quinco Fabric as a weaver for almost 50 years before his retirement in 1985.
Bertrand met the love of his life, Marie Jeanne Gagne Cote, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1946, and they spent the next 58 years as one.
They enjoyed playing cards together, especially SKAT and Rummy. They spent many special moments together and with their family on camping trips and at family gatherings. Bertrand loved to spend time with his family.
Bertrand was an avid fan of sports and especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox win the World Championship in 2004. His greatest pleasure in life however was the time he spent with his grandchildren whom he adored and loved. He will be sadly missed but always remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council 106, Covenant 50, and the Past Time Club where he could be found on occasion.
Bertrand is survived by his wife of 58 years; his daughter, Diane Lizotte and her fianc, William Babine, of Lewiston; three sons, Richard and his wife, Debora Cote, of Poland, Bob and his wife, Suzanne Cote, of Lewiston, and Roland and his wife, Phyllis Cote, of Readfield; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sons, Ronald, Raymond, and Real Cote, as well as one sister.
