KENNEBUNKPORT (AP) – Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton were once political rivals. Now they’re friends.

Clinton told David Letterman on the “Late Show” Thursday in New York that he will be visiting the elder Bush later this month in Kennebunkport. During a recent appearance together in Houston, Clinton noted that Barbara Bush had taken to calling him “son.”

Clinton can look forward to some golfing and boating, the preferred activities while Bush is staying at his summer home on Maine’s rocky coast.

Details of the trip were not immediately available. A spokesman from George H.W. Bush’s office in Houston was not immediately available for comment.

The rivals during the 1992 election were brought together when President Bush asked his father and Clinton to lead fund-raising for tsunami relief efforts.

Clinton will join a long list of dignitaries and world leaders who’ve stayed in the Bush home at Walker’s Point. While president, Bush hosted French President Francois Mitterrand, British Prime Minister John Major and Jordan’s King Hussein, among others.
