JAY – Two candidates who tied for a three-year term on the Jay School Committee will face off again Monday at the polls.

Both incumbent committee member Joel Pike and the challenger Brent “Joe” DeSanctis, received 244 votes during an April 25 referendum.

The polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the Community Building.

Here is a look at the candidates:

Family: Wife, Kathleen; children Rachel, Hallie and Chandler

Education: Bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from University of Maine at Orono

“I have enjoyed the privilege of completing the term of this position, and feel that I can further contribute to the success of the Jay school system by continuing as a publicly elected member of the committee. I have three children with one presently at Jay Elementary School, and I feel very strongly about providing my children with the best education possible.”

Brent “Joe” DeSanctis

Occupation: Route sales, Frito Lay Inc.

Family: Wife, Anne; children Adam, Michael and Rocky

“I want to get involved in the decision-making. A lot of parents and children from what I understand are very dissatisfied with the current administration and the way some things are run. I just intend to be a voice for the people and express what the taxpayers are concerned about. Whether it has to do with the classroom, lunchroom or the locker room,” he said, he wants to do what’s best for the students.
