OXFORD – Leroy S. “Bucky” Toothaker, 79, of Oxford, died early Friday morning, June 17, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Cundys Harbor, on May 27, 1926, the son of Samuel and Wygonda Bennett Toothaker.

On June 18, 1948, he married Barbara Field in South Paris.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 112 of Oxford. He worked at Wilner Wood Heel for 24 years, later for SAD 17 as a school bus driver for 26 years.

Bucky enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and was a jack of all trades. In the eyes of his grandchildren, Grampa could fix anything. He loved telling stories, reminiscing about past experiences, and always entertaining his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; three children, Larry and his wife, Judy Toothaker, of Oxford, Peggy Kennison of Oxford, and Richard and his wife, Rebecca Toothaker, of Oxford; a brother, Fred Toothaker of Monmouth; a sister, Roberta Wallace of Cundys Harbor; two half brothers, David Toothaker of Hebron, and Wayne Bennett; a half sister, Madonna Lowrey of Florida; six grandchildren, Tricia Johnson and husband, Rodney, Becki Kimball and husband, Douglas, Kyle Kennison and wife, Kaylie, Christopher Kennison and wife, Carolyn, and Chad Toothaker and Kami Toothaker; six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter Toothaker and Jim Toothaker.
