I am writing to express my great disappointment with the Sun Journal’s coverage of Leavitt’s graduation. Instead of showing Leavitt and its graduating class at the shining finish – as with every other school – the Sun Journal chose to show the administration as the “bad guys” working to discredit several students and deny them what they thought was rightfully theirs.

I can’t say whether the officials involved did the right thing. However, I can say that as one of the graduates, it was very disheartening to open the paper and find, not recognition for our achievement, but biased articles about the school’s choice to revoke several students’ marching privileges. Many of my classmates were also angered at this presentation of our commencement, which we have worked toward for 12 long, hard, years.

It frustrates us that this acknowledgment of our hard work was condensed into a few brief paragraphs of summary hidden within another article; that our class will not be remembered for our level of achievement, but for those exceptions who the Sun Journal has allowed, in sum, to tarnish our class and our reputation as a school.

I feel that to pass over 153 people’s graduation in favor of two, who through their own choices got the privilege of marching revoked, is just wrong.
