I just read Maine’s new law on causing fetal death. Anyone assaulting a pregnant woman and causing the fetus to die could get a prison sentence of up to 30 years under this new law. But in the eyes of the law, a fetus is just a blob of tissue, foreign tissue in a mother’s body, like a cancer or something, and is not considered human until a certain period of time has passed or a certain amount of growth has taken place.
And doctors and scientists can kill and mutilate these same fetuses, up until a certain point in the pregnancy, with the blessing of the law.
Seems to me there is a tangled web being woven here. I think this new Maine law needs to be tested in the courts, as somebody is lying somewhere.
Think about it. If someone assaults a pregnant woman and the fetus dies, this new law specifies a penalty of up to 30 years in prison for the fetus killing, even though the scientific and medical community says the fetus is not a person.
An untruth starts out innocently enough.
