JAY – Voters re-elected incumbent School Committee member Joel Pike to serve a three-year term on the school board.
Pike received 141 votes and challenger Brent “Joe” DeSanctis received 110 votes in the runoff election.
Both Pike and DeSanctis received 244 votes at the annual town meeting referendum April 25.
Pike works at International Paper as business unit manager for paper machine maintenance.
“I have enjoyed the privilege of completing the term of this position, and feel that I can further contribute to the success of the Jay school system by continuing as a publicly elected member of the committee,” Pike said Thursday. “I have three children with one presently at Jay Elementary School, and I feel very strongly about providing my children with the best education possible.”
The Jay School Committee plans to advertise for a new member and conduct interviews to fill the seat of member Gene Uhuad, who resigned June 2, until next year’s annual town meeting referendum vote.
