WESTPORT ISLAND (AP) – An elderly couple were found dead Tuesday at their home and as an investigation continued the case was being treated tentatively as a murder-suicide, authorities said.

Identifications were not immediately released.

Maine state police spokesman Stephen McCausland said the two appeared to have died from gunshots.

Initial reports indicated that the unidentified husband had called Wiscasset police and that the Lincoln County sheriff’s office responded.

State police joined the investigation.
