Republicans in the Legislature would rather cut health-care benefits to literally thousands of the poor, working poor, disabled and downright indigent than add one lousy dollar’s worth of taxes to a pack of cigarettes. What is wrong with that scenario?

It’s the same old story: I’ve got mine, tough luck for anyone who doesn’t.

Health-care costs and rising property taxes are forcing senior citizens out of their homes.

By the way, I was a smoker for over 50 years, having just quit six months ago. If I were still smoking, I’d pay the extra dollar, no matter what.
