BUCKFIELD – No decision was reached Tuesday night on what kind of bathroom facilities should be installed at the Buckfield waste transfer station.
Buckfield and Sumner use the station, and at a joint meeting of their boards of selectmen on Tuesday, ideas were presented.
Sumner Selectman Mark Silber questioned spending money to drill a well and install a septic system when there are less-expensive options to accommodate station workers until an overall plan was made.
He also tried to generate interest in a swap shop at the station.
“Recycling unwanted items would save the town a lot of money,” he said.
Judy Berg of Buckfield noted that bulky waste would be greatly reduced, and most towns already have swap shops.
Buckfield Selectman Oscar Gammon said, “In just a few years the space at the present transfer station will not be adequate.”
Sumner selectmen asked that Buckfield Town Manager Glen Holmes put together a long-range plan for the station, including looking for a larger piece of property for expansion.
Gammon suggested a workshop, and one was scheduled for Aug. 25 to give Holmes time to research land options and costs.
In Buckfield’s regular business, the board appointed Dick Piper, Gerald Samson, Tim Brackett and Mike St. Hilaire to the Planning Board.
Tim Bernard, Stormi LaCroix and Norman Richardson were appointed to the Recreational Committee, and Everett Tilton and Jillian Chabe were reappointed.
Holmes expressed appreciation for Phil McAllister, who is retiring after 30 years as town road supervisor. He also thanked Selectman Joanne Bly, who will be retiring from the board this month.
