It really gets to me when I realize the hypocrisy of those who so strongly object to the state Legislature borrowing money to balance the budget. The outcry comes primarily from those who wholeheartedly support the current majority party in Congress and the Bush regime, as they spend the U.S. into endless debt and appear to be consigning us to endless war.

Many of the problems that Maine now faces come as a direct result of federal excesses and lopsided tax cuts that favor the extremely wealthy.

It seems the ruling party has become so adept at bait-and-switch politics that some of their staunchest support comes from those they hurt the most. While the rich feed at the public trough, the numbers of the working poor increase. All you apparently have to do is sell yourself as “compassionate,” “pro-life,” or “anti-gay” and “ultra-Christian” to rally support from those who don’t watch your actions closely.

Hatred, intolerance, bigotry, discrimination and “endless war” are not the Christian and family values I was taught.

We must stand up for what is truly just and fight the supporters of terrorism and disunity rather than rail against such phony issues as gay marriage, “illegal” state budgets and fictional anti-Christian plots, while the elected leaders of our wonderful country destroy it from behind closed doors.
