LEWISTON – The city’s free Summer Playground Program began this week and will run through Aug. 12.

The Lewiston Recreation and Parks Department drop-in program will provide breakfast and lunch at each site. At all sites, field trips will take place on Tuesdays.

Lionel Potvin Park will be open 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

River Valley Village will be open 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

Hillview Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The city also will host a free Summer Play Days program for children in kindergarten through grade 6 at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch will be served. Field trips will occur on Fridays, including a trip to a Sea Dogs game and visiting the Theater at Monmouth.

Registration for Summer Play Days is free; however, the program is limited to 35 participants. A waiting list will be kept, and the participant number may increase if necessary.

Registration may be done at the Lewiston recreation coordinator’s office at the Multi-Purpose Center or at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

Upon arrival at each site, children must sign in with their name and phone number.

Kennedy Park will not have a playground program this year, but breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at that location. In addition, Sunnyside Park, Farwell School and Pettengill School will not be included in the playground program this year.

For additional information on any of these activities, people may call the Lewiston Recreation and Parks Department at 782-5951, or, via TTY/TDD, at 784-5999.
