AUBURN – The Auburn Brownie Troop 293 recently designed squares, which were assembled into a quilt to be donated to a child in need through Project Linus.

Project Linus is a nationwide nonprofit, all-volunteer organization which provides handmade blankets to children in crisis situations.

Project Linus Central/Southern Maine distributed 876 blankets to children in need in 2004. The Brownie Troop designed blocks with special markers, and each girl drew a picture she thought would make a child smile or feel comforted.

The girls all gave the blanket a big hug and sent their best wishes to the child who will eventually receive their “Blanket Hug.”

The blanket will be donated to the new pediatric floor at Central Maine Medical Center when the renovations are complete in July. The troop leaders are Jennifer Leeman, Mel Tremaine and Amy Nobling.
