Maine’s congressional delegation will have a big decision to make in the near future, as early as June 30, when CAFTA (the Central America Free Trade Agreement) comes up for a vote in Congress. CAFTA would expand the North American Free Trade Agreement to Central America and the Dominican Republic.
For Maine, CAFTA would mean continued job losses, business closings and the undermining of our democracy.
Maine needs a lot of things, but it most certainly does not need an expansion of NAFTA.
I salute Sen. Olympia Snowe and Reps. Mike Michaud and Tom Allen for pledging to vote “no” on CAFTA. Sen. Susan Collins has said that she is currently undecided.
I am hoping Sen. Collins will make the right decision and vote “no” on CAFTA.
