WEST PARIS – Rena M. McPherson, 93, died Tuesday, June 28, at the Ledgeview Living Center, West Paris. She had formerly resided in the Rumford and Mexico area for many years.
She was born in Newry, on Aug. 30, 1911, a daughter of Terrance and Mary Priscilla (Arsenault) Gaudet, and graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1930.
She had been employed as a dowel maker at J.A. Thurston Dowel Mill in Hale, Mexico, for many years.
She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church, Rumford.
She enjoyed knitting, and sewing, making pickles and relish, and especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was married in Shreveport, La., on May 14, 1943, to the late Elwood McPherson. He died in Canton on July 18, 1994.
Survivors include sons, Norman Gaudet and wife, Susan, of Mexico, and Donald McPherson and wife, Janice, of Mexico; six grandchildren, Mark Gaudet and wife, Julie, of Mexico, Robert Gaudet and wife, Karin, of Dixfield, Deborah Milligan and husband, Mark, of Rumford, Mary Thurston and husband, David, of Hanover, Michelle McPherson of Portland, and Gregg McPherson of Mexico; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brittany and Travis Milligan of Rumford, Robert and Tamarah Gaudet of Dixfield, Ashley, Chelsea and Dylan Gaudet of Mexico, and Matthew Thurston of Hanover.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Basil Arsenault, W. Fred and Russell T. Gaudet; and a great-granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Milligan.
