ROXBURY – Hugh LaForest Morton, 65, of Roxbury, died Tuesday, June 28, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 8, 1940, in Andover, the son of Eldwin and Dora Hutchins Morton.

He attended Andover Schools and graduated from Andover High School in the Class of 1959, and served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1968.

He married Kathleen Palmer on Dec. 6, 1967, in Portland.

He had been employed from 1974 until his retirement in 2000, at Mead Paper Co., in Rumford in the rewinder department as a machine operator.

He was a dedicated family man who doted on his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved nature and animals. He was often seen with a cat or two in his lap. He enjoyed living in Roxbury where he could feed the deer and hummingbirds, garden and restore his 1956 Ford pickup. He especially loved the times that he spent with his brother, Wayne.

He is fondly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen; three daughters, Kathy Tuttle and her husband, Alex, of Stratton, Sharon Dudley and her husband, Dana, of Phillips, and Susan Graham and her companion, Rich Gay, of Mexico; five stepsons, Arthur Cole Jr., and his wife, Jeanne, and James Cole Sr., and his wife, Brenda, all of Rumford, Elmer “Pete” Cole and his wife, Jean, of East Andover, Earl Cole Sr., and his wife, Carmen, and Raymond Cole and his wife, Shirley, all of Standish; four brothers, Wayne and his wife, Marilyn, of East Andover, Otis and his wife, Carol, Owen and his wife, Virginia, and Hanson and his wife, Elaine, all of Andover; and sister, Priscilla Hodgkins and her husband, Bryant, of Roxbury. “Papa” will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Kristen and Alex Tuttle, Becca Robichaud, Benjamin and Kendall Dudley, Sarah and Ryan Graham, Jason, Michael, Earle Jr., Peter, Jay, Jimmie and Joey Cole, Corey Chase, April Daye, Tracy Doherty, Stacy Porter, Shelley O’Brien, Donna Anderson, Douglas Conant and Jason Jolin; and several great-grandchildren.

He predeceased by a granddaughter, Sandra Cole; and a brother, George Morton.
