LITCHFIELD – On Wednesday, the American Red Cross was providing food and clothing to a family of seven whose mobile home burned down the night before.

The fire at 1254 Richmond Road was reported at about 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Fire officials said no one was hurt, and a family cat escaped to safety.

Firefighters from Litchfield and Richmond got the blaze under control within an hour, but the home was believed to have been destroyed.

On Wednesday, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, representatives from the United Valley Chapter of the Red Cross said seven people had been displaced by the blaze.

To help the chapter provide disaster relief assistance to that family and to other victims, donations may be made to the United Valley Chapter, American Red Cross, P.O. Box 439, Auburn, ME 04212. Red Cross officials ask that contributors earmark their donations for the “local disaster relief fund.” Officials from the relief organization can be reached at 795-4004.
