LEWISTON – Sixteen people completed a five-session workshop on reacquiring their French language on June 1 at the Franco-American Heritage Center. The course was taught by Julia Schulz, founder of the Penobscot School of Languages.
The participants were brought up in a French-speaking environment and most knew how to speak fairly well. For others, it was a little more difficult but at least everyone understood what was discussed from week to week.
The session culminated with the presentation of the film, “Reveil,” and created awareness of participants’ roots, heritage and why their native language was disappearing.
Many will return in the fall for more classes. Some have also referred others to the center for courses.
Anyone interested in a fall session of French reacquisition classes should call the center at 783-1585.
