Dear Sun Spots: I am in my late 70s.
I have Medicare; Medicaid and MaineCare. What care can I receive for dental? Are there dentists who take MaineCare? Thank you. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: According to MaineCare’s Web site, adults are covered only for emergency dental treatment to stop pain, infection or tooth loss. If you need teeth extracted so that you can get other medical services, like radiation or heart surgery, MaineCare will pay. Regarding other dental needs, you may be able to work out a payment plan with your local dentist and Sun Spots would urge you to contact them to see if this is something you could set up. In the meantime, you need to contact MaineCare’s Member Services to discuss what’s covered and what isn’t. You can also obtain a listing of dentists who accept MaineCare. You can reach them via phone 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at (800) 977-6740.

Dear Sun Spots: For the person who is looking for Stain Away Denture Cleaner: I use it all the time also and it can be found at any Rite-Aid for $5.99. I bought a bottle again today. To me this is the best for dentures. – L.L., Lisbon.
Dear Sun Spots: About a month ago, the Sun Journal ran a story on a lady who referred to herself as The Muffin Lady. It included a recipe for zucchini bread as well as a muffin recipe. The recipe had variations that could be used. I inadvertently threw it out and am interested in seeing those recipes again. – No Name, Poland Spring.
Answer: Sun Spots believes you are referring to the Cook of the Week column published in April and featuring Linda and Carla Henault of Lisbon. The following are the recipes:
Muffin ingredients: ¼ cup margarine, melted, 1 egg, ½ to ¾ cup sugar (according to taste), 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 1 cup milk, dash of salt. Method: Melt margarine, then add sugar, mix well. Then add egg. Then add flour, baking powder, salt, and milk. Then add any one of the following and mix until just combined:
¾ to 1 cup blueberries (floured lightly)
¾ cup diced apples
¾ cup chopped dates
¾ cup mini chocolate chips
Any other filling, such as jam or lemon pie filling
Place batter in muffin tin (you can use paper liners or spray with Pam). Sprinkle tops with a cinnamon-sugar mixture and then bake for 15 minutes in a 425-degree oven. Makes 12 regular size or six jumbo muffins. (If making jumbo size, bake for 20 minutes).
Linda’s note: This is a recipe her mom always made when she was young. She used to bring these freshly baked muffins to work in the morning, hence the name The Muffin Lady.
Zucchini bread ingredients: 3 eggs, 2 cups sugar, 2 cups shredded zucchini, ¾ cup vegetable oil, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 3 cups flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt. Method: Beat eggs in a large bowl till foamy. Beat in sugar, zucchini, oil and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Pour batter into greased and floured bread pans (makes 2 large loaves, or 1 large and 2 mini loaves). Bake for 50 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees. You may add chopped nuts, approximately ½ cup if desired. Linda sometimes substitutes carrots in place of zucchini.
